Dave is a trial lawyer that has dedicated his career to helping ordinary people going through extraordinary circumstances. Dave has obtained remarkable settlements and verdicts for his clients in difficult cases involving wrongful death, catastrophic injuries, premises liability, and fraud. Dave has been recognized by his San Diego peers as a Super Lawyer, Outstanding Trial Lawyer, and Distinguished Alumni of the University of San Diego School of Law.
Dave graduated college from Emory University as a member of the Dean’s List and an all-conference soccer goalkeeper. He then attended the University of San Diego School of Law where he graduated with honors and as a member of the Order of the Coif.
Next, Dave began his legal career by clerking for a federal district court judge, Hon. Janis L. Sammartino, in San Diego. He then joined a top international law firm, Cooley LLP, and represented Fortune 500 companies in high stakes litigation and class actions. He was later honored to serve the public as a federal prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s Office. He successfully investigated, prosecuted and tried numerous cases involving public corruption, weapons trafficking, drug trafficking, and bank robbery. Dave successfully tried over 12 cases to verdict, including a high profile 5-week trial against corrupt United States Border Patrol agents. The jury found the “Villareal Brothers” guilty of taking bribes, alien smuggling, and money laundering. They were later sentenced to thirty years in prison.
Dave then took his specialized background and dedicated his trial practice, career, and his law firm to fighting for individuals that have been harmed. Recently, Dave took a zero offer wrongful death motorcycle accident case to trial, prevailed, and ultimately obtained $5 million dollars for his clients. In another recent case, Dave and his client later rejected a $300,000 offer on a broken ankle auto accident case, prevailed at trial, and obtained $1.1 million dollars. Dave’s aggressive, but pragmatic approach has also led to multiple six to seven figure settlements on the courthouse steps.
Finally, Dave is highly involved in the San Diego legal community. He has served as an Adjunct Professor of Trial Practice at the University of San Diego School of Law. He is the chair of the San Diego County Bar’s Civil Litigation Section and a member of Lawyers Club, American Business Trial Lawyers, Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, and the Welsh and Wallace Inns of Court.
Dave is licensed to practice in the state of California and has practiced in other states around the country as pro hac vice.
