Fox Law has had an outstanding year, recovering over $10,000,000 for its clients.
The firm is very proud to have added Rebecca Morrison to our team as Special Counsel. Rebecca brings years of stellar personal injury experience, and will be a tremendous asset to the firm and our clients.
On the trial front, Dave Fox was awarded by his peers in the plaintiffs’ bar as a 2015 “Outstanding Trial Lawyer” after a jury verdict resulted in $1.1 million dollars for his client that was hit by a car and suffered a broken ankle. The firm also obtained a $766,000 verdict for our client that slipped and fell in a restaurant and suffered damage to a nerve in her hip.
Just before summer trial dates, we also resolved two cases involving public safety issues. The first was a road maintenance case against the County of San Diego that resolved for $2,500,000. A compelling video about the case can be found here: Fitsemons. The County failed to properly maintain a road near Jamul. As a result, a 29 year-old Navy Rescue Swimmer fell off his motorcycle and suffered major injuries to his back and legs. The second was a drunk driving matter that resolved for $5,275,000. We were proud to represent the victims in these cases and believe both settlements will significantly help the victims and improve the safety of on our roads.
In Mass Torts, the firm continues to represent over 60 victims that lost their homes and other property due to the Butte wildfire in Calaveras County, east of Sacramento. PG&E and other entities failed to maintain and care for a powerline, which then led to a devastating fire that burned over 70,000 acres. Fox serves on the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee, and is working with leadership to hold those entities responsible for their negligence and to reimburse the victims.
The firm is also litigating three class actions in federal and state court. These cases are against See’s Candies, Bose Speakers, and Expedia for various business practices that harm consumers.
We have also strived to give back with our time and resources. Dave Fox completed his term as the Chair of the Civil Litigation Section of the San Diego County Bar Association (“SDCBA”). Additionally, the San Diego federal judiciary selected him to be a Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit. In this position, Fox will work with federal practitioners and the federal judiciary to find ways to strengthen federal practice in the Ninth Circuit. Fox continues to serve as an instructor on the faculty of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (“NITA”). Fox also spoke on two panels for the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego (“CASD”) regarding Trial Practice and Course and Scope issues, one panel on jury selection for the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (“ABTL”), and served as a guest lecturer on closing arguments for law students at the University of San Diego School of Law.
The firm sponsored three North County events for the Boys & Girls Club of San Diego and was Presenting Sponsor for two fundraising walks for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (“MADD”). The first was in Point Loma (Liberty Station) on October 15, 2016, and the second was in Carlsbad on November 5, 2016.
In recognition of Fox’s contributions to the community and the school, including his work as an Adjunct Professor of Trial Practice, the University of San Diego School of Law awarded him with a “Distinguished Alumni” Award.
To celebrate the year, we held a Happy Hour on October 13, 2016 at the Del Mar Plaza. There was terrific food from Il Fornaio, an open bar, and live music from local musician Michael Tiernan. We welcomed Becky Morrison to the team, thanked referring attorneys and friends, and held a charity raffle for the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito.
